Newborn Photoshoot Ideas with Just One Window

Newborn Photoshoot Ideas with Just One Window

Are you worried that you don’t have the perfect space for a newborn photoshoot? Fear not, because you can create a beautiful gallery of photos in just one small room with a single window light.

Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful newborn in the client’s mum’s house while she was cooking a Sunday roast downstairs (yummy). The room we used was small and cozy, with just one window letting in natural light. But with a few tricks up my sleeve, we were able to create a stunning gallery of photos that the family will cherish forever.

First things first, we positioned the baby near the window to capture as much natural light as possible. This not only provides a soft and flattering light, but it also creates beautiful catchlights in the baby’s eyes.

Next, we added some simple props to the scene to add a personal touch to the photos. We used a soft blanket which was knitted by a friend and the family dog jumped in to say hello too. These small additions added a personal touch to the final photos.

We also played around with different angles and poses to create variety in the gallery. We captured the baby sleeping, snuggled up in lots of blankets, and even some candid shots of the family interacting with their newest member.

One of my favourite shots was of the baby’s tiny feet resting in Daddys arms. It was a beautiful moment that perfectly captured the love and connection between them.

In just one small room with a single window light, we were able to create a beautiful gallery of newborn photos that the family will treasure forever. So, don’t worry about having the perfect space for a photoshoot. With a little creativity and some natural light, you can capture stunning photos that showcase your family’s love and joy.

Sibling and Newborn Photography at Home

Sibling and Newborn Photography at Home

Newborn photography at home allows for a more relaxed lifestyle approach, especially when older siblings are involved. Lifestyle photography isn’t about those perfect posed newborn sleeping shots. Instead it aims to capture that authentic interaction between a family.

I love those pictures of newborns that are awake and interacting with their surroundings. There’s always smiles as they stare at their older siblings trying to copy their silly faces. And who can resist blowing a few raspberries to guarantee a belly laugh or two. Queue me having to wipe a whole load of spit off my camera and lens as little ones chuckle away!

More than likely most of the newborn photoshoot will take place in your bedroom or nursery. Although I’ll always hunt for the best light in your house. But if we’re near your bed and you have older siblings there’s a good chance we’ll be jumping on it for some action shots. Check out some of my favourites from this newborn photoshoot below.

There are so many benefits to booking a newborn photoshoot at home. Mainly because you don’t have to leave the cosy little bubble you’ll all be in. You can relax knowing you’re in familiar surroundings if someone gets hungry or needs a nap. There’s no strict timetable and I’ll work around you.

And because your photoshoot is at home you won’t need to pack lots of different outfits. I always recommend a simple plain timeless outfit. This mum hit the brief perfectly dressing her newborn and girls in neutral colours that will stand the test of time. They also work perfectly with her neutral decor keeping the focus on those cute newborn details rather than the outfit. If you’re after some more outfit inspiration you can check out my spring / summer or autumn / winter Pinterest boards.

You might be worrying about all the tidying and prep you will need to do for newborn photography at home. All I ask is you tidy the surfaces in the rooms we’ll be taking photos. For example, clear those bedside tables of baby bottles in the bedroom. Then pop on some clean duvet covers in a plain colour. I’m not worried about a few wrinkles in the bedsheets, no new mum has time for ironing!

Baby Twins Photo Shoot in Rickmansworth Aquadrome

Baby Twins Photo Shoot in Rickmansworth Aquadrome

Another one of my fave families! I’m so excited to share a selection of images from the fun baby twins photo shoot I had with this family of four. The photo shoot took place on a warm summers evening at Rickmansworth Aquadrome when the twins turned one years old.

Paola contacted me in the summer looking for a family photo shoot with her twin boy and girl. I had already taken newborn baby photos for two other families in her NCT group so I knew this was going to be a lot of fun.

Paola is an enthusiastic and artistic woman who loves the colourful shapes of nature. Like many mums she’s the main photo-taker in the family and was eager to have some photos on the wall of the whole family together. Including her!

One of the things I enjoyed about this baby twin photo shoot was planning the location. From the pre-shoot questionnaire it was clear that water, trees and beautiful light were important. Paola had discovered Rickmansworth Aquadrome on one of her family walks and it ticked all the boxes. The only thing left to agree on was the time of the photo shoot. We were in the middle of summer so needed to keep the baby twins up late to get the magical golden hour light. As it was a one off special occasion we decided to start the shoot at 6:30pm to hit golden hour at 7:30pm.

The baby twins were such a pleasure to photograph, so alert with big happy smiles. Although it was way past their bed time they were so relaxed and loved being out in the warmth of the evening sun.

We spent the next two hours taking in the beautiful views around the lake. There was lots of playing, silly faces, tickling and cuddles. Plus a whole lot of snacks!

Paola and Mario are bringing up the twins to be bilingual. I loved listening to them switch between English and Italian, it’s such a beautiful language. But my heart melted at the end of the photo shoot when the twins figured out how to say my name. With a little tiny hand wave and a “Ciao Anna” I knew we were all best buds.
