ALL FUN & GAMES

Family photography should be free-wheeling, wild and, above all, fun. Something that conjures memories of a really happy, brilliant chapter in your family’s history every time you look at it. Your family grow up so quickly (everyone says it, but believe me it’s a fact) and while there’s no point trying to prevent it – may as well try to hold water in your hands – you can have some beautiful photos taken that will take pride of place in your home. I’m a big believer in filling your home with stuff that makes you smile and nothing will make you smile like a lively family portrait that shows your family off just as they are. 5 Tips for a Fun Spring Family Photoshoot Amongst the Blossom

5 Tips for a Fun Spring Family Photoshoot Amongst the Blossom

Spring is one of the most beautiful seasons of the year. As the flowers begin to bloom and the trees fill with leaves, it’s the perfect time to capture the beauty of nature and create lasting memories with your family. One of the best ways to do this is by scheduling a family photoshoot amongst the blossom.

As an experienced photographer, I’ve captured countless spring family photoshoots and have learned a few tips and tricks to help make your session a success. Here are some of my top recommendations:

  1. Choose the Right Location: When it comes to spring family photoshoots, the location is key. I know some great spots with lots of greenery, as well as flower beds and blossoming trees. When you book a shoot I’ll share my location guide with some of my favourite spots to choose from.
  2. Plan Your Outfits: The clothes you wear can make or break your photos, so it’s essential to plan ahead. Choose colours that complement each other, and avoid wearing patterns or logos that may be distracting. Light and pastel colours work well in spring, and don’t forget to layer up as it can still be chilly at this time of year.
  3. Consider the Time of Day: The best time for a spring photoshoot is during golden hour, which is the hour before sunset or after sunrise. The light during this time is soft and warm, creating a beautiful glow in your photos. If you can’t schedule your photoshoot during golden hour, we’ll aim for a time when the sun is lower in the sky and the light is less harsh.
  4. Bring Props: Props can add interest and personality to your photos. Think about items that are relevant to spring, such as a blanket (i’ll bring these!) or a flower crown. These can also help keep children engaged and entertained during the session.
  5. Have Fun: The most important thing during your spring family photoshoot is to have fun and enjoy the experience. Play games, tell jokes (I’ve got a few gooduns), and enjoy each other’s company. These natural interactions will create genuine and candid moments that make for the best photos.

Spring is the perfect time to capture the beauty of nature and create some gorgeous photos of your family. By following these tips, you can ensure a fun and memorable family photoshoot amongst the blossom. Book your session today and capture the magic of spring for years to come.

Celebrating a First Birthday with a Family Photoshoot at Mayfield Lavender Fields

Celebrating a First Birthday with a Family Photoshoot at Mayfield Lavender Fields

What could be better than capturing beautiful memories with your family in a stunning location? If you’re looking for an unforgettable experience, then look no further than Mayfield Lavender Farm. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a family of four on their trip to the lavender fields. They were celebrating their youngest daughter’s first birthday, and it was truly magical!

Wonderful Props for Photos

The family brought along some wonderful props for the photos including a gold crown and a wooden basket. As well as this, I borrowed a bunch of lavender from the shop so that the girls would have something to hold in their pictures and stop them from picking the flowers. It was a great way to make sure they stayed still while we captured some amazing moments!

Photoshoot Timing

To ensure that we got the best possible shots and avoided any crowds or harsh sunlight, we arrived at Mayfield Lavender Farm at 9am – when it opened. This meant leaving Reading at 7:30am but it was worth it! We had plenty of time to get all of our photos taken before the crowds arrived and it looked like we had the place to ourselves.

Costs Involved with Photoshoot

In addition to my usual photography fees, there are some extra costs involved if you decide to use Mayfield Lavender Farm as your backdrop. This includes petrol costs for travelling to the farm as well as purchasing a photography pass (prices start from £55) which is required for any professional photo shoot. Each guest will also be required to pay an entry fee of £5. For more details you can view their guidelines here. The farm is open between June and August and requires booking so make sure you plan ahead if you want to take advantage of this stunning location!

I absolutely loved capturing these precious memories with this beautiful family at Mayfield Lavender Farm. It was such an incredible experience and one that I won’t forget anytime soon! If you’re considering having a photoshoot here then I highly recommend it – just make sure you factor in all additional costs before booking or contact me to have a chat.

A Heartwarming Large Family Photoshoot

A Heartwarming Large Family Photoshoot

As a photographer, there’s nothing quite like a large family photoshoot to capture the joy and love that a family shares. I recently had the pleasure of photographing a large family who had come together for a special occasion. The eldest son had arranged the photoshoot with me all the way from Australia, and had flown in with his family, including his new 8-month-old baby, so that everyone could meet for the first time.

It was heartwarming to see how excited everyone was to be together. Great grandma, who was an impressive 92 years old, looked amazing and I think we all struggled keeping up with her energy. It was clear that her ever growing family was the most important thing in her life and she was so proud of them all.

The family consisted of three children, all with their own families, and it was amazing to see how much fun they all had together. As I snapped away, it was clear that this was a family that cherished their time together.

During the photoshoot, we chatted and caught up on all the news. I was amazed to find out that one of the sons had actually been on my business studies course at Bournemouth University, and we laughed about the times we spent at the Old Firestation nightclub (if you know you know!). I always love a trip down memory lane!

The whole experience of dealing with Anna has been great. Timely responses and super helpful in organising the shoot and helping us prep; accommodating with a large group, and amazing at getting the best out of 5 kids – the shoot itself was great fun; and the resulting photos were natural and captured our extended family beautifully. Can’t recommend highly enough. Thanks Anna!

As a photographer, it was a lot of fun capturing the essence of this large and loving family. We took photos in all sorts of groupings, from the whole family together to individual family units. It was clear that everyone was having a great time, and it was an honor to be a part of such a special occasion.

I know that these photos will be treasured for years to come, and I feel lucky to have been the one to capture them. It was a reminder that family is the most important thing in life, and that it’s the love and connection between family members that truly matters.
